This engine started out life as a Rio Grande
unit that was stripped and repainted into the NS Horse Head
scheme.

Norfolk Southern GP38-2 #5284
This engine started out life as a Conrail
GP38-2. This is one of the first modern engines Kato
produced back in 1988-89. I had never seen one
up until a few weeks ago when this one came in for an
overhaul. The previous owner had replaced the pilot
with the Micro-Trains kit, but didn't cut the screw to the
correct length and it went right through the porch.
Once I fixed those, I stripped down the old paint and this
is the end result. The walkways and handrails are
really sturdy, but thicker than the newer releases. I
need to figure out how to add the white stripe to the sill
since the handrails are not removable. A lot of
cutting and individual stripes I guess... The engine
is still silky smooth, even after 23 years.

The four Atlas 50'6" ACF Boxcars were stripped
down with Scalecoat Stripping Solution. After allowing
them to dry overnight, I airbrushed them with Modeflex
Engine Black and finished with Microscale decals.

The two Norfolk Southern 86' Auto Parts boxcars are made by Con-Cor.
They were stripped and painted into the distinctive black and
white Horsehead scheme with Modelflex paints and Microscale
decals (HO scale again). While not prototypical, this is a really nice
scheme.

The four 60' Auto Parts Boxcars are made by
Atlas and were stripped with 91% alcohol before being
repainted into the shown NS scheme. Decals are from
Microscale and the paint is from Modelflex.

2-Bay Hoppers
These Red Caboose hoppers were custom painted
after being stripped with 91% alcohol. Modelflex Reefer
Grey was used for the paint and the decals are made by
Shellscale.

Norfolk Southern SD40-2 #6150
This unit was custom detailed from an
undecorated.
Polly Scale paint was used for the base black. Not 100%
prototypical, but I added features that I liked and think it
turned out okay. I kept the detailing to a simple version
on this go around.

Norfolk Southern SD70M #2606
This unit was completed after it was sold on eBay as a
standard, "no frills" unit. The winning bidder asked
if I could detail the engine and change the road number because
he already had the other three units that Kato released in 2005.
The unit to the left is the result of those upgrades. This number is not
included in the upcoming Aug 2009 release from Kato, so it will
still be a unique piece.
